Covid19 Resilience Grant Recipients Announced

Many apps, apptreprenuers and trail-blazing mobile businesses of the future applied for our Covd19 Resilience Grant. We’re proud to announce our final list of Covid19 Resilience Grant recipients. This final list of apps were selected based on their potential to help the community during the pandemic, potential to become tomorrow’s unicorns, and readiness to scale-up. 

From all of the numerous apps that applied, the following are our list of successful grant recipients. In addition to this, we have nominated two outstanding apps that we believe are benefiting the community to receive the grant as well. These apps were not necessarily eligible, however, it is our aim to contribute to the community during this time.

With this grant, it is our aim is to further these outstanding app’s reach in order to advance their impact and benefit to the community during the pandemic. We also want to help build resilience during this economically challenging time. We thank each grant participant and recipient for being a part of the Covid19 Resilience Grant, and developing an app that benefits the community. 

The Covid19 Resilience Grant Recipients

Breathwrk

Breathwrk is a mental wellness app that guides you through quick and powerful breathing exercises that eliminates stress & anxiety, increases energy, improves endurance, and helps you fall asleep. Stress and anxiety levels have risen for many due to the economic, health and social concerns of the pandemic. Therefore, apps that can provide some mental respite in a non-contact way are of huge benefit to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Selection Committee loved Breathwrks’s simple and clean user interface with a ‘unique value proposition’. Breathwrk’s mission statement was well executed within the app and received well by the Selection Committee. One Selection Committee member wrote: “Very clean UI and easy to understand. Directions make the app fun to use.”

Mooditude


Mooditude is a mental wellness app. Mooditude will help you feel calm, energetic, and focused. You will achieve your goals, be it personal, relationship, money, or work-related, with positive habits and routines. Stress and anxiety levels have risen for many due to the economic, health and social concerns of the pandemic. Therefore, apps that can provide some mental respite in a non-contact way are of huge benefit to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Selection Committee felt confident in Mooditude’s mission statement, with some stating the app was a ‘great initiative’. Overall, the Selection Committee felt a strong need for such an app in today’s climate, with one Selection Committee member stating: “There’s a lot of great facets in here and it’s a really important app“.

MoovBuddy

MoovBuddy is a health and fitness app that will be your biggest supporter to get you to feel physically better. It is not only an exercise app, but it is also your motivator for being engaged in your programs. Currently, with many citizens self-isolating and avoiding crowded gyms and other physical activity locations, health and fitness apps have been vital in assisting people to continue exercising whilst avoiding crowds and staying indoors.

The Selection Committee felt that this was overall a solid app in a crowded and competitive space. Some differentiating factors were MoovBuddy’s high ‘quality of graphics and assets’ and their user onboarding, with one Selection Committee member stating: “It’s very clever to capture the user’s intent during the onboarding stage”. 

 

PlanPiri

PlanPiri is a medical and health and fitness app. It is currently offering pandemic related advice, such as the best methods of handwashing. PlanPiri currently serves the Turkish market.

The Selection Committee felt that PlanPiri certainly is an essential app in today’s climate. One Selection Committee member stated: “Idea-wise, the app is interesting and could become an essential download for thousands … I think there’s a killer idea”. 

 

Fitzy Fitness

Fitzy Fitness app is a health and fitness app that aims to be your personal trainer. With you everywhere, 7 days a week 24 hours a day; whenever you need! Currently, with many citizens self-isolating and avoiding crowded gyms and other physical activity locations, health and fitness apps have been vital in assisting people to continue exercising whilst avoiding crowds and staying indoors.

The Selection Committee felt this again, was a solid and an ‘engaging and promising’ fitness app in a crowded vertical. One point of differentiation that was praised was their collaboration with fitness instructors, with one Selection Committee member writing: “Great idea to work with PTs so that you can grow with their network of clients”.  

 

Medito

Medito is a mental wellness app which will always remain 100% free. They offer guided and non-guided meditations from the Medito Foundation and other organisations such as UCLA, Dhamma talks, and Audio Dharma. Stress and anxiety levels have risen for many due to the economic, health and social concerns of the pandemic. Therefore, apps that can provide some mental respite in a non-contact way are of huge benefit to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Selection Committee all agreed that this was a great app, with a great ‘initiative’. Again, like other mental wellness apps, they had a great and simple UI, which really elevated the app. One Selection Committee member wrote: “The use of audio and visual UI helps the users to navigate the app and understand their progress well”. Another Selection Committee member commented on the app clearly delivering on their value proposition; “The interface experience is graphical and simple to follow and seems to deliver what is promised”. 

 

MDBilling.ca

MDBilling.ca is a medical app, used by Doctors to bill their patients. It is the most convenient way to bill OHIP claims. With medical staff having to treat higher volumes of patients, every productivity and efficiency software will help lessen the burden on the medical system and staff.

The Selection Committee felt that this app was a successful player in its specific niche. One Selection Committee member wrote that the: “App Store page and website look very slick and this app is clearly a leader in its niche already. The business model seems like it could be sizeable”. 

 

Exam Preparation App

Study24x7 is a collaborative platform for Educators & Learners. They believe every student is a teacher and every teacher is a learner. Currently, with many students not having full-time access to their school/campus and facilities, online tools are playing a vital role for students during the pandemic.

This app was praised by the Selection Committee for its mission statement and goals, along with having great potential. One Selection Committee member felt this app was a unique blend of LinkedIn with Facebook; “If you can get the basic model right then the ‘Facebook/LinkedIn’ of study is a pretty big market to aim for!”. Another Selection Committee member stated: “By enabling young people to learn and master subjects important to their academic career, you are changing lives”. 

 

Teal Wellness

Teal is a comprehensive app for fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness, basically a holistic wellness app. It aims to make users more Well’thy. Teal creates personalized fitness, nutrition and lifestyle plans for each of the users, in a way that it is easy, fun and gradual. Currently, with many citizens self-isolating and avoiding crowded gyms and other physical activity locations, health and fitness apps have been vital in assisting people to continue exercising whilst avoiding crowds and staying indoors.

Like other health and fitness apps in this category, the Selection Committee felt this was another strong contender. Some praised its ‘fresh and clean’ user interface, whilst others highlighted the success of their social in-app elements, with one Selection Committee member stating: “The things I loved that made this stand out were the questionnaires and the ‘feed’ – this social element is THE thing that I think will make a difference in this sector”.  

 

Genius App Manager

Genius App Manager is an app designed to get children off their mobile devices and moving again. They allow the parent to set a daily step goal and/or chores for their children. During the pandemic, many parents are juggling parenting and working duties, thus, apps like these really provide much needed support.

“A unique app targeting parents and children” – this was a common theme among the Selection Committee. The app’s benefit to the community and parents was appreciated, along with their unique take on the niche. Here were some comments from the Selection Committee members:

  • “Anything that can give parents more options to manage screen time is an important effort”
  • “I’m super aware of the importance of screentime management … The step goal and chores list is a nice idea to integrate”

 

Kieka

Kieka is a navigation app that helps Londoner’s navigate throughout the city in the most comfortable and crowded-free route. They are currently helping locals to go about their daily lives, and avoid crowds during the pandemic.

The Selection Committee felt this was an interesting and unique take on the traditional navigation app. They felt this really spoke to specific pain points of local Londoner’s in a non-generic way. In addition their clean UI was praised. One Selection Committee member wrote: “As a Londoner, I’ll be downloading this app! Very smart, albeit very focused solution. UI looks clean and fresh, and the idea is smart. If the model can be used in cities elsewhere, it could be huge.”



Thank you to everyone who participated in the Covid19 Resilience Grant. Our aim was to help support resilient startups that are benefiting the community during the pandemic with a welcome injection of advertising funds.
